The aims of the GRID-projects are to establish networks and distributed processing and administrate in a way they meet the demands of future generations of high-energy experiments (e.g. ATLAS or the D0 experiment). The challenge is to cover the huge amount of data and computing time by using the existing hardware of different institutions. Furthermore, "regional computing centres" are planned which are an important part of the architecture such systems.
